Well, the April 15th tea parties came and went. Depending on whom you ask, they were either a) a rousing success that demonstrated the level of frustration common to most middle class working Americans or b) or a few isolated conservative crack-pots huddled together and being just plain contrary.
ACORN, the delightfully non-partisan organization solely devoted to community organization and NOTHING ELSE, tried desperately to disrupt the tax-day community organizations by dismissing them as right-wing crybabies. Across the board the talking heads on TV, who usually love any sort of protest aimed at the US Government, spent three days making childish “tea-bagging” jokes. (Apparently, there is some sort of jailhouse gay slang involved. I couldn’t be bothered to look it up.)
It is hard for me to imagine Conservatives as the one staging grass roots protests, which have long been the domain of the far Left. It is even harder for me to imagine such opposition from Liberals to the protest. The whole point of the tea parties, in case you’ve either been living under a rock or relying on network news for your information, was to protest high taxes. Are we to surmise that the pundits and radicals who have been ridiculing the protesters for the last few weeks are in support of…what? Higher taxes? Perhaps they could voluntarily move into a higher tax bracket and leave me alone.
What kind of crazy backward world have I stepped into? Protesters on the Right and solidarity with the federal government on the Left? Seriously? Conservative protesting in the streets and Liberals defending the status quo? Not supposed to happen. Normally staid television commentators offering giggling frat house gay jokes on mainstream news shows with nary a complaint from the Bisexual- Gay- Lesbian-Whatever Association? Can’t be. ACORN, mighty protector of the little guy and tireless defender of the downtrodden, publicly and repeatedly belittling those who take a stand for what they believe? Say it ain’t so.
I just don’t know what’s what anymore. What’s next? President Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary insulting US Veterans and failing to understand basic facts about the 9/11 attacks?

“The whole point of the tea parties, in case you’ve either been living under a rock or relying on network news for your information, was to protest high taxes.”
Um, no. You missed the point entirely. The tea parties were protesting the selling out of America (Tarp/bailouts/Federal Reserve/etc.).
