Politicians are Losers

by James Maynard May 2nd, 2013 Winners & Losers
This was the second week in a row when it was not good to be a politician, as nearly everyone was down, or headed there quickly.

Hillary Clinton – Loser – A U.S. House panel has recently released a report detailing the September 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi. Within its pages are requests for security details from the U.S. Ambassador to the north African nation, Gene Cretz, which were rebuked personally by Ms. Clinton. If these turn out to be authentic, it would undermine her congressional testimony given after the attack. Democrats in the House, including Elijah Cummings of Maryland,

Compromise Anatomy

by Eric M. Blake April 29th, 2013 Conservative Considerations
So a major buzzword in American politics this past month has been “compromise”.  A few Conservative now-icons have been raising some eyebrows, lately — taking part in compromises that to some may seem “common-sense”, but in others causes a stir along the lines of, “What on Earth — are we witnessing a hero selling out?”

When asked by ABC's Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz if the Republican Speaker could ever imagine a scenario like Portman's where someone he loved came out as gay, Boehner said:

by James Maynard March 21st, 2013 Winners & Losers
Politics last week was dominated by the annual gathering of influential conservatives at the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) meeting in Washington, which lasted from March 14-16. A few people did a fine job there shoring up their base. There was also one unexpected policy turnaround from an influential Republican.

Rob Portman – Winner - A longtime opponent of gay marriage, Rob Portman made a surprise announcement that he now favors extending the institution to homosexual couples. This makes Portman (pictured) the first Republican Senator to come out in favor of the issue, which brought about a firestorm of criticism

The Big Three Of CPAC 2013

by Eric M. Blake March 19th, 2013 Conservative Considerations
First things first: Happy St. Patrick’s, everyone!  This past Sunday held quite a special meaning to me, blessed as I am with ¼ Irish heritage.  So, for fellow wearers of green and lovers of shamrocks … top of the week to you, my lads!

Come to think of it … so did the whole week — although, to be fair, that was USF’s Spring Break week.  Got some business done, took some long naps to recharge, got some personal writing out of my system, and stayed up late to watch Cheers on Hallmark.  (I’ll explain on a slow week —
