Is it 2016 Already?

by James Maynard May 9th, 2013 Winners & Losers
The calendar may read 2013, but politicians from both major parties are already gearing up for the next election: No, not 2014 – 2016. Last week saw visits to key primary states from Joe Biden, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Rand Paul and others. Although no candidate is close to declaring his or her intention to run for the presidency yet, these leaders are laying groundwork that would be vital to such a run. There's also new polling that sheds light on potential Democratic candidates for president and other issues.

Picking Up The Pieces, Part VI: Getting “Hip” With It

by Eric M. Blake January 14th, 2013 Conservative Considerations
After three weeks of necessary diversion, so as to comment on some very important (I felt) issues of the time — I think it’s best to pick up where we left off with the burning question for the Right: “Where do we go?”

Last couple times, I focused on cinema and television.  But those two elements are just subsets of a major problem we must tackle, else we might as well throw up our hands and give up America for lost.  Namely — we must restore our popular—that is, our pop-cultural—image.

by Eric M. Blake December 10th, 2012 Conservative Considerations
One of the better post-election “where-do-we-go-from-here” manifestoes I’ve seen for Conservatives is an article on the City Journal website.  In this article, entitled “The Long Game,” Andrew Klavan points out, correctly, that far too often the Conservative movement, popular and elite, ignores the most important battlefield of all: the culture.

The truth is, as a movement, we’re far too often content to sit back and mutter about how slanted pop culture is against us, how biased the Hollywood power brokers are against us, and so on.  We write books and create documentaries about it— preaching basically to the choir— and then we offer no

Don’t Ditch Your Friends Just for Voting “Wrong”

by Jessica B. December 4th, 2012 Political Opinions
After the election, there were many reports of people ditching their Facebook friends, friends in real life, and even family members because they voted for the other guy. There are a lot of reasons to remember that just because you don’t agree with the other side, doesn’t mean there is a right and a wrong.

I read recently here on Camp Campaign about how one commenter didn’t believe in the "get out and vote" message from certain people, because it meant encouraging people to vote wrong. But this is where I disagree. I don’t think there is a "voting wrong".
