Is it 2016 Already?

by James Maynard May 9th, 2013 Winners & Losers
The calendar may read 2013, but politicians from both major parties are already gearing up for the next election: No, not 2014 – 2016. Last week saw visits to key primary states from Joe Biden, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Rand Paul and others. Although no candidate is close to declaring his or her intention to run for the presidency yet, these leaders are laying groundwork that would be vital to such a run. There's also new polling that sheds light on potential Democratic candidates for president and other issues.

Hillary Clinton – Winner – Joe Biden may have been the

Fun With A Filibuster

by Eric M. Blake March 12th, 2013 Conservative Considerations
Some time back, I made it absolutely clear that were Rand Paul to throw his hat into the ring for the 2016 GOP Presidential Primary, I would support him in a heartbeat.  (Unless, of course, Marco Rubio’s also going to run—in which case, Rand would probably be my #2.  But I digress …)

This past week's helped to demonstrate why.  He’s not his father (thank heaven for that!) but he’s a rock-solid Libertarian Conservative, firmly grounded in the Constitution — and he's not afraid to stand up to the typical Washington mindset.  “Not afraid” in this case means: willing to

The Senate – Thirsty for Accusations

by James Maynard February 21st, 2013 Winners & Losers
One of Barack Obama's nominees to fill a cabinet post lost in the Senate this week, while another senator should drink more water before a speech.

Chuck Hagel – Loser – Hagel may be the only clear loser from the Senate vote on February 14th which denied him the approval (for now) to become the new Secretary of Defense. The final vote in the Senate was 58 to 40 in favor of the Vietnam veteran, but the tally fell shot of the 60 votes needed to confirm the nominee for the position.

Marco Rubio – Loser

Maybe Ross Perot Was Right

by Ronald A. Rowe February 12th, 2013 Independent Ideas
Many Camp Campaign readers may be too young to remember Ross Perot’s failed bid for the Presidency of the United States of America. Perot is a billionaire businessman who decided that neither the Republicans nor the Democrats were willing or able to get the job done. Perot had the means to try to step in and do something about it. He launched the most successful third-party campaign in modern American political history.

He scored 19% of the popular vote in 1992, although he was completely shut out of the electoral vote by the arcane rules of the Electoral College. Exit

Shuffling the Deck

by James Maynard February 7th, 2013 Winners & Losers
People were coming and going in Federal government this last week, so let's take a look at who went up and who went down:

Senator Bob Menendez – Loser – Ouch. Every few years, there is some scandalous sex story related to a person high in government. The newest such story broke last week, when Democratic Senator Bob Menendez was accused by a former prostitute of having relations with her. Furthermore, she also stated that the Senator from New Jersey “likes the youngest and newest girls,” as reported in the Daily Caller. Regardless of whether or not the allegations are
