Election fervor is picking up and the Republicans and Democrats are settling into their typical corners of the ring. Republicans repeatedly talk about how they are pro-family, by being pro-life and pro-heterosexual marriage. Democrats talk about how they are pro-family by being "for the children" (though I still haven’t figured out what this means) and working on healthy eating campaigns.
But having spent the last ten years traveling extensively, the one conclusion I have drawn is that neither political party in the US is particularly family-friendly. Let’s take a look around the globe at how families are treated.

Before I kick off, I feel I must make a comment regarding the methods of a certain colleague. Look: going out of your way to emphasize (I swear) spelling errors in the argument of someone who’s challenging your argument (SIC! SIC! SIC!) … that seems to be a common tactic of internet message boards, which can be best translated as, “You’re an idiot, so I don’t have to even bother to take your argument seriously.” Of course, it has nothing to do with content. In a word, it’s “sic”. Really … can’t we discuss things like rational adults?
