PRISM, Spying and Government Overreach

by Jessica B. June 18th, 2013 Democratic Deliberations
It always surprises me when people claiming to be against big government seem to give spying programs like PRISM a free pass. It seems that big government is totally welcome to violate our freedoms when it is in their interest, but when they disagree with the philosophy behind it, big government is un-American.

As someone who generally tends to support big government when the purpose behind it is to improve the living quality of the people within the country, I tend to fall on the opposite side of the fence. I have no problem with income tax and federally funded

A Winner in Exile

by Ronald A. Rowe June 14th, 2013 Winners & Losers
The City of Atherton, California – Loser – The City of Atherton spent $8,000 on security and cleanup for one of President Obama’s fundraising events in April. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $3 million at the event. Atherton officials thought it reasonable that the DCCC kick back .0003% of their haul to cover the costs incurred by the city. They billed the White House. They billed the Democratic National Committee. They billed the Secret Service. This week Town Manager George Rodericks made it clear that Atherton is not going to let this slide without a fight. He’s mad

President Obama’s Anti-Privacy Campaign

by T Akery June 11th, 2013 Republican Reflections
Back when President Obama was campaigning for the Presidency, he criticized Bush’s view of national security. Yet as the leaks keep coming, it is clear that he has kept up and expanded on many of Bush’s policies. Perhaps, history will remember him as both the Food Stamp King and the Anti-Privacy President.

The whole thing is frankly a huge embarrassment for the President. It seems he is quite incapable of controlling any government entities. His claims of having no knowledge of the recent scandals make him seem completely uninterested in his own administration. What’s worse is that he keeps making

Scandals, Real and False

by Eric M. Blake June 10th, 2013 Conservative Considerations
Glenn Beck once predicted — and has often re-predicted — that when historians shake off the rose-colored scales and look back at the Obama Administration — through the lens of the objective facts — they'll have no choice but to proclaim it the most corrupt in American history.  From the curiously readily-available "stimulus package", to the backroom deals and arm-twisting to pass the "Affordable Care" Act … to Solyndra (and all its brethren of uber-government-waste) … to Operation Fast-&-Furious (which Holder’s Justice Department still has yet to undergo disciplinary action for) — and at long last … to the four

IRS Scandal Grows, While Martinez Gains Allies

by James Maynard June 6th, 2013 Winners & Losers
The Internal Revenue Service is collecting documents from 88 of their employees in their investigation into improper behavior in 2010-2011 which targeted conservative and Tea Party groups.

President Obama – Loser – The week began with continued inquiries surrounding the actions of the Internal Revenue Service under his watch. It ended with Representative Darrell Issa (R-OH) stating on CNN that the order to deter conservative groups from being award non-profit status came “from Washington.”

Danny Werfel – Loser – The acting commissioner of the IRS is doing his best to put out brush fires all over the place, but they seem
