President Obama’s War on Jobs

President Obama’s war on jobs has basically kept unemployment levels very high. As a result, wages are lower and benefits have decreased. He has attacked small businesses on several fronts. But it is his failure to bring Congress together that has fundamentally hurt the job growth in this country.

Business climate uncertainty is one of the things that President Obama has control over. The uncertain climate has a hugely damaging effect on morale. Now you might think it’s a little silly to talk about the morale of business, but it does play a very important role. Bad morale means discord in the ranks. When translated to businesses, it means that small businesses themselves are concerned about their own future. Since small business owners factor in the feelings they have about the economic situation along with their numbers, they are less likely to do the things that they want to do.

Another front in the war on jobs is the tight credit market. While the policies were designed to help consumers, there were consequences to those policies. Those consequences are being visited on those looking for loans. In other words, banks aren’t loaning unless there is perfect credit. Which means that future loans designed for expansion or upgrades are very difficult for small businesses to get. So even if a small business can justify an expansion in their sales numbers, they probably can’t expand just due to the fact that they can’t qualify for a loan.

Then there is Obamacare. That’s a big one. Even with the newest CBO figures, it is nearly impossible at this moment to figure out the new expenses added just by Obamacare. If you are a small business much of the profit made gets cycled back in. But when your profit margins become smaller due to extra mandatory costs, you can’t grow as fast. Thus, your plans for hiring people get put on an indefinite hold.

While I have been focusing on small businesses, there are also some disturbing trends on the big business stage.

One of the more disturbing patterns is the loans to the “green” energy sector. Even while getting taxpayer loans, these “green” energy companies are actually laying off workers, have gone bankrupt or are on the verge of bankruptcy. Isn’t that money supposed to save those jobs? Instead it is getting recklessly spent on useless items that have nothing to do with improving the quality of  the supply of “green” energy. So despite all of that extra money, the end result is more people out of work. There is certainly an irresponsibility here.

The EPA is another deterrent to job growth. While keeping a clean country is nice, there does need to be a balance. But this balance has been disturbed by the EPA overstepping its authority on many occasions. All of this no purpose regulation has successfully ended the jobs of many. The biggest layoffs are coming in the coal industry as over 200 plants are closing their doors. That’s a lot of people and a lot of soon to be deserted towns.

So yes, the rich are getting richer off of taxpayer money. It isn’t because this administration is allowing them to earn it. It is because they are handing out money like Halloween candy with no regard for the consequences. The President could be doing a lot about jobs but what he is really doing is killing them.
