Politics and Facebook

by Jessica B. September 11th, 2012 Political Opinions
It is still two months until the election cycle, but Facebook is alive and well with countless political updates, photos, and political debates. And I think a lot of people end up wondering "Am I really friends with this person?"

Don’t get me wrong, I love to talk about politics. I have very strong opinions which I am proud of and have no trouble expressing. As I report often on political situations around the world for several different news sources, I am also very read up on a wide variety of political situations around the world.

Repeal the 17th Amendment?

by Jessica B. August 28th, 2012 Political Opinions
Given that many right-wingers try to use the word Constitutionalist to describe themselves (implying that the rest of us are anti-constitutionalist rather than just interpretively different constitutionalists) I was surprised to learn this week that there is a push within the GOP to repeal the 17th amendment, and the push is run by Congressman Akin, the same Akin who believes a woman’s uterus can determine the friendliness of incoming sperm.

Medicare has become the hot topic because of the Ryan plan. Ryan's plan wants to revamp Medicare with a voucher system. While the benefits currently in place would not change, in the future, people would have the option of going

The War Rages On….

by Eric M. Blake August 20th, 2012 Conservative Considerations, General Politics, Political Opinions
You've got to hand it to anti-Conservatives: they lose with no dignity— and win with even less.

Last Tuesday, I’m sorry to say, my father lost his bid for Polk County Property Appraiser.  As befits a Christian and a Conservative, he lost with dignity— and so did his supporters, like me.  And the other side?  Well…

The results had barely come out when a heckler posted, on our campaign’s Facebook page, an angry rant along the lines of, “So what happened to ‘When we win’???” (Never mind Dad did not count his chickens like that— at least, not as much as

Was Ryan A Wise Choice?

by Jessica B. August 14th, 2012 Political Opinions, Presidential Election
Romney has finally picked his running mate and it is none other than Paul Ryan. It wasn’t the most surprising move, but at the same time it is playing to a base of the Republican Party that Romney has largely avoided this far along in the race. And in doing so the question remains if it is a move that will help or hurt him.

Ryan appeals to a group of Republican voters who might have leaned towards another candidate, but may be enough to scare away many a potentially Republican-voting former Democrat.

Romney has been a candidate that has the
