Shocker! Teen Pregnancy Drops Due to Contraception

by Jason Lightner April 20th, 2012 Independent Ideas, Independent Views
How this is a surprise to anyone is beyond my comprehension.

From salon.com:

“The most recent decline in teen births can be linked almost exclusively to improvements in teens’ contraceptive use”

You don't say? Kids use a condom, or the pill, or both, and they don't get knocked up? Brilliant! Seriously, call Guinness! Wait, what? There's another possibility?

Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America:

“They don’t even mention the fact there’s been a tremendous increase in effectiveness and pervasiveness of abstinence education."

Oh! I get it! By telling kids to not have sex because it's bad, they're not

The Breitbart Obama Arpaio Paul Conspiracy

by Ronald A. Rowe March 7th, 2012 Independent Views, Political Opinions, Winners & Losers
Andrew Breitbart passed away this week at the too-young age of 43. Although I wasn't always the biggest fan of his uber-confrontational style, he was a young guy and his children are now fatherless. The venomous comments flying through the blogosphere are just so cruel and tasteless that it actually makes me sad.

In the silver lining department, Breitbart's death has generated the latest, greatest round of conspiracy theories, which I do so enjoy. So let's follow this one through. Bear with me as we walk through this theory from the beginning.

Constructive vs. Destructive

by Jason Lightner December 2nd, 2011 Independent Ideas, Independent Views, Political Opinions
Some time ago, famed innovator Steve Jobs was talking to media mogul Rupert Murdoch and said to him the following:

"You’re blowing it with Fox News. The axis today is not liberal and conservative, the axis is constructive-destructive, and you’ve cast your lot with the destructive people. Fox has become an incredibly destructive force in our society. You can be better, and this is going to be your legacy if you’re not careful."

This struck a chord with me as a person who watched Fox News when I was younger, from about 1998 on up to 2004 when I

Bits and Pieces

The Doctor

This past Sunday, everyone's favorite Libertarian in Republican's clothing, Ron Paul, was on Face the Nation in an interview with Bob Schieffer. Ron talked about foreign policy, the economy, and bringing our troops home. It was good to see him finally getting some airtime after polling at a grand rate for months now.

So CBS gives Uncle Ron some airtime, and it's with a man who either doesn't know how to do a proper interview, or has a personal vendetta against Dr. Paul which causes him to twist Paul's words at every opportunity. This is the kind
