Folks, as many of you know, I am a BIG fan of Star Trek. I’ve loved it since my childhood—and I cheerfully admit to writing fanfic by the bucket-load.
Now, one of the most amusing things I’ve seen/heard on this (particularly from a certain colleague of mine) is something to the effect that my fandom is frankly inconsistent with my beliefs in matters of politics, faith, etc. The argument’s something to the effect that the Star Trek universe is atheistic (which, as anyone who’s seen Deep Space Nine knows, is simply not true)— or at least secular-humanistic. Round two, for the Benghazi hearings: whistleblowers, this time — including one Greg Hicks, former Deputy Chief of Missions in Libya. Testimony: the Administration — the State Department in particular — has strained from the very beginning to downplay the attacks on our embassy, even covering up from the beginning that they knew it was a full-blown act of terrorism, potentially even Al-Qaeda itself. Ambassador Susan Rice’s office knew it was not a “spontaneous protest” in response to a stupid video — yet she went out the Sunday after anyway, giving the “video” spin.

How Far We’ve Gone

Well, here we are. It’s been almost two years, dear readers, since I first shared my thoughts with all of you. And now… I am proud to say, folks: this is the first article you’ll read from me following my graduation from the University of South Florida, with a Bachelor’s in Political Science.
I’ll be staying a couple years longer, pursuing a Master’s in Film Studies. Still, I’d call this something of a milestone, at the very least. One of the most irritating platitudes I’ve ever heard — probably the most, involving milestones — is, “Today is the first day

Compromise Anatomy
by Eric M. Blake April 29th, 2013

So a major buzzword in American politics this past month has been “compromise”. A few Conservative now-icons have been raising some eyebrows, lately — taking part in compromises that to some may seem “common-sense”, but in others causes a stir along the lines of, “What on Earth — are we witnessing a hero selling out?”
Okay. Folks, these days, the last thing we need is to act perfectionist. We do that, and we devote too much time to picking apart those on our side … and forget the real antagonists in our fight. Still — there are times when people

Lessons Of The Boston Bombing
by Eric M. Blake April 22nd, 2013

So, the dust barely settles from the bombs going off in the Boston Marathon, when the Far Left rears its predictably ugly head. Salon.com went on record, claiming we’d better hope and pray that the bombers were white guys. NPR — the taxpayer-boosted bastion of self-righteous, taken-for-granted-as-fact Leftist dogma accepted as “news”, which booted Juan Williams for peanuts, while keeping on Nina Totenberg after far worse — went even further, accepting as a given that the terrorists were another example of white right-wing extremists who somehow take a liking to April as their month of action.
