My least favorite years are election years. For the course of a year we have to listen to all the bickering between these politicians while they run for the primaries. Then once the parties settle on candidates it all starts over again for the presidential race. All the while, they sling mud at one another. Why?
Before I dive into the why, I want to state my disgust for these “distinguished professionals.” Does anyone else find it funny that Hillary and Obama were at each other’s throats during the primaries and now she backs him? Each of them stated the other wasn’t qualified, but miraculously that has all changed. Integrity is not the cornerstone of politics that is for sure.
Why do politicians bring up all the negative stuff against the other? It keeps the opponent on the defense. When somebody insults you, your first instinct is to fire back. You strive to defend your self-esteem and even your reputation.
When you are on the defensive, you give up your attack strategies and eventually even the strongest defense can be penetrated. If you walk up to me at work to give me an assignment and I ask you why our lunch hour has been cut short under your new policy, you go on the defense. You will stand there defending your decision and get so infuriated at my battering of questions that you walk away angry and never give me the assignment.
When one politician attacks the other, the public wants to know the truth. There is now time lost from the campaign and pushing of issues to defend an image. Rarely do you see a politician’s defenses get broken down completely. More often than not, they answer the barrage with attacks of their own.
My favorite part of this equation is that they ensure the public they can boost diplomatic talks with other national leaders. These “distinguished professionals” can’t get along with Americans, how can they possibly talk to a nation that hates us? Then again, they get plenty of practice talking to people that hate them.
