Advice for the Presidential Candidates – Put your money where your mouth is!

General Politics, Presidential Election

With six months left until we go to the polls to elect the next President of the United States, Americans are uncertain who their choices will be. Republican John McCain is presumed to be the Republican candidate for ’08, and he is hitting the campaign trail hard despite the fact that he does not yet have a confirmed opponent. Democrat Senators Obama and Clinton are locked in bitter battle. The news media covers the ongoing election process in every aspect except the one that seems most important.

What will the next President do to help America during this economic crisis? I want real answers, not political pandering or campaign trail fluff. I don’t want to hear about a gas tax that would not really help anyone (hear that, Senator Clinton and Senator McCain?). I want to hear how the next President can moderate gas prices so that Americans do not feel pinched every time they visit the gas pump.

I want to hear what the next President plans to do about the economy, what plans he or she has for helping the middle class working folk who are the backbone of this nation.

I want to feel like the candidates understand what is happening out in real world America. Don’t attack the other candidates – instead show me that you understand the struggles for American families today.

Give me hope that there will be some relief in the coming months and years. Tell me that you will be a President who listens to the people who elected him or her into office, not a President who listens to big business and oil companies.

I voted in my state’s primary, and I plan to vote in November but in the meantime, the candidates need to put their money where their mouths are.
